During the Brewers Cup preliminary round held on May 2nd in Boquete, everything felt less like a contest and more like a shared pause among people who care deeply about coffee.

The room held a quiet focus, softened by an easy familiarity, as if everyone already understood what was at stake.

In Motion

One by one, competitors stepped into the stage.

Measured movements

Controlled timing

Small adjustments that would go almost unnoticed

Behind each presentation, there was preparation, intention, and a story being told.

Judges observed quietly, while the rest of the room followed along in silence or low conversation. It wasn’t loud or dramatic, but it didn’t need to be.

Observations

What stands out in these spaces is not just skill, but awareness. Competitors are not only brewing coffee, they are translating it. Every decision reflects how they understand the coffee they are working with.

In Panama, this feels especially layered. The coffee is local, but the standard is global.

..more than just a beverage, it's a registry of our evolution.."

shared Competitor Leticia Castillo during her presentation.

Moments

There were small moments that stayed longer than expected, a pause before pouring, a slight adjustment mid-routine.

Nothing felt exaggerated. Everything felt deliberate.

Our Note for the day

Not everything that matters in coffee is loud. Some of it happens in silence, in focus, in repetition. Just like how it is produced.

Respect for every competitor that stepped on stage for Brewers Cup Preliminary, the intention behind your work was felt in the room.

Editor's Notes

Coffees observed through presentations:

  • Geisha washed & natural lots.

  • Mineral-balanced water for sweetness. (ex: Calcium, magnesium)

  • Notes of sweet orange, peach, white florals, honey, red grape.
